Summary of Standardization

2023Apr27

Standardization can play an important role in optimization. For example, if work procedures, data handling, etc. are standardized in a certain business, efficient business execution becomes possible, and as a result, more efficient optimization can be achieved.

However, when standardization is progressing in a certain field, optimization in that field requires design and development based on standardized standards.

This is because standardization unifies the quality of operations and products at a certain level, and it is necessary to achieve optimization without falling below that level.

By performing motion simulations in a virtual space and standardizing the data, it is possible to improve the efficiency of both product development and production processes. To achieve this, standardization and optimization are the keys.

Furthermore, unitization, modularization, and equipment standardization will enable specialized design and sales activities.

Standardization also improves design accuracy and helps detect problems and errors in the manufacturing process before they occur.

For example, lets consider standardizing a process of machining of a certain part. If the process is standardized, when an order received all preparations and settings can be done according to the standardized work manual.

Order can be delivered faster, because of the lower processing time. Also the need for experienced staff to works such as generating CNC programs, designing jigs can be reduced.

Since all the tools and other settings are predetermined in the standardized work manual, chance of mistakes  are minimal. It reduces cost by reducing the risk of failed parts.

In addition, in the optimization of standardized operations and processes, further improvements may be possible by seeking more efficient methods while adhering to standardized procedures and regulations.

Wisdom is essential for improvement. Without it, progress is impossible. Information and technology can be useful tools, but they alone cannot guarantee improvement. Wisdom is the key ingredient that guides our decisions and actions towards positive change. However, achieving improvement can be challenging, which is why we must strive for standardization and consistency in our approaches.

Standardization is not limited to manufacturing or technology. Standardization also applies to many aspects of our lives. For example, producing reports according to a specific format is a form of standardization. This includes not only the overall structure of the report, but also details such as font type, font size and alignment. Standardizing these aspects ensures consistency and clarity in the presentation of information. This increases efficiency and reduces errors. Standardization can be thought of as a means of process optimization.
